Founded in 1986, the U of A Kung Fu Club teaches the Wing Chun style of Chinese kung fu, a scientific fighting style originating from the famous Shaolin temple. It emphasizes skill, technique and evasion rather than brute force, making it a martial art for everyone regardless of size, strength or musculature. Wing Chun is characterized by close-range fighting, lightning-fast hand techniques and effective low kicks. Wing Chun is self-defense and as such, it is practical, fast and destructive. In addition to self-defense, Wing Chun training also improves mental discipline, self-confidence, fitness and health. Therefore, people of all ages and abilities can participate and enjoy the training every day. |
