History of the Alberta School of Kung Fu Club and University of Alberta Kung Fu Club |
| The Alberta School of Kung Fu was founded in 1986 to teach the Wing Chun style of Chinese Kung Fu, a scientific fighting style originating from the famous Shaolin Temple. This style emphasizes skill, technique and evasion rather than brute force, making it a martial art for everyone regardless of size, strength or musculature. Wing Chun is characterized by close-range fighting, lightning fast hand techniques and effective low kicks. Wing Chun focuses on self-defense and as such it is practical, fast and destructive. In addition to self-defense, Wing Chun training also improves mental discipline, self-confidence, fitness and health. Therefore, people of all ages and abilities can participle and enjoy the training everyday. |

Sifu Edward NG is the head instructor. He started training under Sifu Dennis Chau in Hong Kong back in 1970 and moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1986. His Wing Chun lineage is direct from Yip Man, Wong Wing to his instructor, Dennis Chau. Besides this Canadaian location, Sifu Dennis Chau also has many students who teach in England and Australia. |
| Sifu Edward NG, who has practiced and taught Wing Chun for the past 30 years, is still training students in traditional Wing Chun techniques, Chi Kung and Forms. Workshops, day camps, and seminars are organized periodically. These special trainings provide students the opportunities to develop their skills in weaponry such as in Bo Staff, Butterfly Swords, Short Sticks and Internal Exercise.
